Seamus Murphy: Shambhala





My 3,400 mile journey across the vast Tibetan Plateau included the pilgrimage around Mount Kailash, tangles with Chinese troops on seldom-seen corners of the Tibetan roof of the world and, following clues gleaned from ancient guide books, ended in the Muslim deserts of Central Asia. I may or may not have reached Shambhala, but I glimpsed a world of disappearing cultures and threatened beliefs. Shambhala is the story human beings need to tell themselves: that beyond this world, there is another, a paradise of eternal life and the restoration of hope. [source]
